So, combining Cotton On’s strict quality control standards within the fast turnaround of a shop fit-out in Riccarton Mall was always going to be a challenge.
“It was a very specific brief,” says Managing Director of Competitive Painters, Joe de Leijer. “We were given a sample box of products and finishes and we had to recreate that look in store. It’s no simple task.”
One Week Turnaround
The team at Competitive Painters had just one week to complete the whole fit-out. Normally we would allow a little longer to complete this kind of project, but when you’re working in busy Riccarton Mall, there’s no time to mess around.
“We set up teams to work nights and weekends to make sure everything would be ready by the big day,” says Joe. “Once we agree to a deadline with a client, we stick to it.”
Protecting Our Painters
It’s worth noting our painters and decorators are also working around builders and electricians doing their part to get the store ready, and it’s not a big space.
“Health and safety is especially important on a project like this,” says Joe. “It’s no good completing everything by the deadline if guys on our team are hurt or injured in the process.”
Clear project management and lines of communication meant everyone knew what was happening, and when, keeping it an accident-free work site.
Perfect First Time
On the final day of the fit-out, Elaine from Cotton On management came to inspect our work. Our team had a tight deadline to meet, but we knew if we had to come back to make touch-ups it would be a major disruption for the store opening.
“Elaine was absolutely wrapped,” says Joe. “She said our work was one of the best paint jobs she had ever seen, and it was very rare to have a defect-free fit out on the first go. Our boys didn’t have to go back and fix anything.”
